No Recall for National Pet Food Products Since March 16, 2007 several major pet food companies have instituted a voluntary recall of a number of different brands of dog and cat food as a result of reports of renal failure in cats and dogs. National Dog Food products are not involved in this issue. It has been widely reported that wheat gluten from China has been implicated in this issue. The FDA has identified a contaminant (melamine) found in the Chinese wheat gluten as the cause for the renal failure. The FDA is continuing to actively investigate the issue. National has contacted suppliers of our wheat products and they have confirmed that their products are not involved. At this time all our wheat products are sourced from US or European suppliers. National is actively following this issue to assure that all ingredients for National are safe for use. This issue is unfortunate and tragic for the animals and pet owners involved, However, it is important to understand that this situation was the result of contamination. Wheat and wheat derivatives continue to be safe and nutritionally beneficial. National utilizes wheat derivatives which are sourced from the United States and Europe.
